UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Representing seven fall sports, 69 Penn State student-athletes have earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Penn State's 69 honorees brings the Nittany Lions' all-time total to 3,616 during the 17 years of the program.

The men's soccer team tied for highest number of honorees in the conference with Ohio State. Each program boasted nine honorees.

Penn State's Academic all-conference award winners excelled both academically and athletically. The men's and women's cross country teams both received at-large bids to the NCAA Championships It was the first time since 1994 that both teams attended the event together.

The field hockey team made its 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Junior Ayla Halus (Hershey, Pa.) and sophomore Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.) earned second team All-America honors in 2010.

The football team will make its 37th postseason trip when it travels to the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1, 2011 to take on Florida. Penn State led the nation with three First Team ESPN Academic All-Amiercans in 2010, including senior Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville, Pa.), Chris Colasanti (Leonard, Mich.) and sophomore Pete Massaro (Newtown Square, Pa.). In addition, Wisniewski earned AFCA First All-America honors.

The men's soccer team earned the No. 15 seed for the 2010 NCAA Tournament. The squad finished the season with a 14-8-1 record for the most wins in a season since 2002. Senior Matheus Braga (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) was named to the All-Big Ten First Team, while senior Drew Cost (West Chester, Pa.) picked up Second Team All-Big Ten laurels.

The women's soccer team won its 13th consecutive Big Ten title led by second team All-American and Hermann Trophy semifinalist Christine Nairn (Arnold, Md.). In addition, senior Danielle Toney (Northville, Mich.) and junior Emma Thomson (Nottinghamshire, England) were named Second Team All-Big Ten.

The women's volleyball team won an unprecedented fourth consecutive NCAA National Championship on Dec. 18 with a 3-0 sweep of California. The Nittany Lions secured an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning their eighth straight and 14th overall Big Ten crown. Senior libero Alyssa D'Errico (Byron, N.Y.) was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection and earned ESPN Academic All-District accolades in 2010.

The Big Ten recognized 706 fall sports student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in their second academic year at their institution. They must carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
