Who Should Attend
The Nittany Lion Rugby Camps are open to students entering grades eight through twelve next fall. High school graduates are also eligible to enroll.
About the Camps
Rugby Academy, June 22-26
The
Nittany Lion Rugby Academy accommodates various age groups and skill levels to include beginners and is designed to help players develop fundamental skills for playing more effectively as individuals and team members. Emphasis is placed on individual and positional skills as well as team skills and concepts. The camp features a high-quality staff of instructors from top colleges and teams.
Academy Highlights
- Interaction with a number of USA National Team players and coaches
- Skills development: Evasive running, passing, tackling and contact skills
- Specialty clinics: Kicking, lineout throws and scrum-half passing
- Film study and individual analysis of play
- Individual player evaluation and feedback
- Chalk talks/videos
- Flexibility, strength training and conditioning programs, as well as sports psychology and motivational techniques as appropriate for ages and skill levels
- Competitions with prizes
- Non-rugby activities: Swimming, soccer, dry-land training demonstrations and more
- Trainers on duty 24 hours
Fees: resident, $475; commuter, $390 (does not include housing)
Meals: From dinner on the first day to lunch on the last day
Combined Camp, June 22-29
The
Combined Rugby Camp provides an opportunity to get the full Penn State Rugby Camp experience by attending both camps (at a reduced rate). Attending the Combined Camp will also make it possible for newer players to meet the requirements for acceptance into the Advanced Skills Camp.
Fees: resident, $825; commuter, $670 (does not include housing)
Meals: From dinner on the first day to breakfast on the last day
Advanced Skills Camp -- Backs/Forwards,
June 26-29
The Advanced Skills Camp -- Backs/Forwards accommodates various age groups, but enrollment is restricted to experienced players. Emphasis is placed on in-depth development of positional and unit skills.
To provide the best possible learning experience, players must:
- Have played at least two years of competitive rugby OR
- Completed the Nittany Lion Rugby Academy OR
- Provide a coach's recommendation (school, club, age, grade, etc.)
Those who wish to attend must complete the camper information section of the registration form online.
