UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lion basketball team landed in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Tuesday night in preparation of a three-game week at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

First up, the Lions will tangle with No. 6 North Carolina State at 5 p.m. (ESPN2) on Thursday.  Penn State will play again on Friday against either Providence or Massachusetts.  The trip will conclude on Sunday with a game against either Akron, Oklahoma State, Tennessee or UNC Asheville.

In all, the Puerto Rico field consists of five teams that reached the postseason in 2012 and four squads that finished 2012 in the top 100 of the RPI.  N.C. State and UNC Ashville participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.  Tennessee, Massachusetts and Akron played in the 2012 NIT.

Head coach Patrick Chambers said the team is thrilled with the opportunity to play in deep field, but the team is treating the trip to Puerto Rico like a business trip.

"It's great to play a high-caliber team like N.C. State this early in the season," Chambers said.

Chambers is in Puerto Rico for the second time as a head coach.  He led Boston University to a 1-2 mark in the 2009 Tip-Off, which included a 71-67 victory over Indiana.

The Lions tallied their eighth-straight season-opener victory on Friday with their 65-58 win over Saint Francis.  Chambers said that he was happy with the way the team battled and found a way to win.  The Lions had a tough shooting night from the perimeter, but the squad went a tremendous 28-32 from the foul line en route to the victory.

The Lions will spend the next five days in Puerto Rico.  Take a look at the team's thoughts on the three games ahead, and listen to associate head coach Eugene Burroughs' scouting report of No. 6 N.C. State.
