I had the privilege of playing for Coach Paterno in his first three years as Head Coach at Penn State. I was not always the best practice player he ever coached but he gave me the opportunity to be the best player I could be. Both coach Paterno and my high school coach (Dick Hoover at Vestal High in New York) taught me more than just football but how to deal with people and players in different ways. There are many stories I could tell about coach but the best one for me is after playing a round of golf at PSU Football Alumni Outing he was taking a picture with Tom Cherry and and our wife's he remarked " You had to throw the ball into the stands." That happened in 1968 over 40 years ago. What a memory. I will always remember my years playing for Joepa and the life lessons that he taught that I have carried on in my own life and coaching carrier.
